JUSTIFIED

JUSTIFIED is a psychological suspense drama that examines the aftermath of a murder through the perspective of the perpetrator. Presented as a voice-over monologue, the film allows the killer to recount what drove him to commit the act — attempting to rationalize and justify his actions despite their moral and social implications.

The narrative unfolds as an intimate psychological study, focusing less on the crime itself and more on the fractured mindset behind it.

I served as Director, Cinematographer, and Editor, shaping both the film’s visual tone and internal rhythm. The project was captured on a Blackmagic cinema camera, utilizing its dynamic range to preserve texture and tonal separation within a stylized lighting environment.

Cinematography features a wide variety of compositions — including extreme close-ups, medium shots, and long shots — to contrast emotional intimacy with psychological distance. The extreme close-ups emphasize internal conflict and instability, while wider framings isolate the character within physical space.

Lighting was driven by a controlled studio setup using the Nanlite Forza 500, allowing precise shaping of intensity, falloff, and color motivation. The film’s color palette centers on red, orange, cyan, and yellow, with a deliberate emphasis on warm tones.

Reds and ambers were used to intensify the presence of blood, guilt, and emotional heat, while cyan tones function as a visual counterpoint — symbolizing mental fracture and psychological dissonance. This warm–cool contrast became central to the film’s visual language.

As one of my earliest psychological suspense projects, JUSTIFIED represents the first film where I began defining my stylistic direction — exploring morally complex characters, controlled lighting, and color-driven emotional storytelling.
