AFTERLIFE is an adventure short film that follows a solitary traveler on a metaphysical journey into the afterlife. The narrative explores the spiritual connection between humanity and nature, reflecting on themes of transition, isolation, and the uncertain path toward the unknown.
Directed and shot by me, I led both the cinematography and color grading, developing the film’s visual identity from production through post. The project was captured on an iPhone 14 Pro using the Blackmagic Camera App in a 16:9 aspect ratio, leveraging mobile filmmaking tools to achieve a cinematic aesthetic.
The visual approach was rooted in naturalism. I worked primarily with natural lighting, allowing environmental light to shape mood, depth, and realism across each scene. Cinematographic composition emphasized classical techniques such as the rule of thirds, golden ratio, and symmetry to create visual balance while reinforcing the character’s spiritual passage.
A wide range of shot selections — including close-ups, wide shots, extreme long shots, and motivated camera movement — were used to contrast intimacy with vastness, visually mirroring the character’s emotional and existential journey.
In post-production, I crafted a muddy green color palette during the color grading process to evoke an organic, earthly atmosphere. This tonal direction was designed to blur the boundary between life and the afterlife, enhancing the film’s contemplative and immersive tone.
