THE LETTER

THE LETTER is a psychological suspense short film that follows a man in the quiet comfort of his home when, without warning, letters begin appearing throughout his space. What begins as a moment of stillness gradually shifts into paranoia, as the presence of an unseen observer becomes impossible to ignore.

I served as Director, Cinematographer, and Editor, shaping the film’s visual language and narrative rhythm from production through post. The project was captured on a Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K, utilizing its dynamic range to preserve detail within a deliberately low-light environment.

Lighting played a central role in establishing tone. Using ARRI 650W and 300W tungsten fixtures, I created a shadow-driven setup defined by deep contrast and minimal illumination. Dark negative space was used to isolate the character, reinforcing psychological tension within the confined setting.

To heighten atmosphere, I simulated golden hour lighting using the ARRI units — warming and shaping the light to replicate the directional softness and amber hues of sunset. This stylized contrast between warm motivated light and shadowed interiors added emotional depth while maintaining visual realism.

In post-production, my editing focused on controlled pacing and the gradual escalation of unease, allowing visual repetition and silence to drive suspense.

With a runtime of approximately 3 minutes, the film operates as a compact psychological study — transforming an ordinary domestic space into a site of quiet surveillance and mounting distress through disciplined visual storytelling.
